Know the room before you design the show.
IM-Production assesses venues from a production perspective: the space available, how equipment gets in, what infrastructure exists and which constraints affect the event. Where useful, the scope can include 3D venue documentation for remote planning.
A venue photograph cannot answer a loading question
A room may look right and still be difficult to build in. Door widths, delivery routes, restricted working hours or limited backstage space can change the entire production approach.
A site survey brings those practical conditions into the brief. We review the available venue documentation, walk the relevant areas and identify the information your designers, production team and suppliers still need.
What the assessment can cover
- Room dimensions, usable areas and relevant height restrictions.
- Loading access, internal transport routes and storage options.
- Existing power, rigging and technical infrastructure information.
- Proposed stage, audience, backstage and control positions.
- Venue restrictions, operating windows and questions for venue management.
- Photographic records, annotated plans and a list of unresolved requirements.
Structural capacities, permitted loads and technical approvals must come from the venue or qualified specialists. A visual inspection or 3D scan does not establish them.
3D venue documentation, with a defined purpose
A navigable 3D model can help an international team understand a venue, compare layouts and discuss equipment positions before returning to site. The useful level of detail depends on the decisions the model needs to support.
Before capture begins, we agree the areas, required accuracy, output format and access arrangements. A planning model is a record of the surveyed space; it is not automatically a live digital twin or a certified engineering model.

The Hyundai Kona Electric reveal documentation describes a protected venue where installations could not rely on drilling into the building. Freestanding and ballasted solutions became part of the production approach. Understanding that restriction shaped the build from the start.
Questions
Can our international team use the survey remotely?
Yes. Survey findings, photographs, annotated plans and any agreed 3D outputs can be used for remote coordination. The output format and access requirements are agreed before the survey.
Does a survey replace engineering approval?
No. A venue survey records conditions and identifies requirements. Structural assessments, load approvals and other specialist sign-offs need the relevant qualified parties and project documentation.
